- EQ: What is the most efficient fire protection installation for a warehouse?
- Third Answer: The type of pipe used in the environment of the installation contributes to the maximum efficiency the system can produce.
- Three supporting details:
- 1. There is specific piping used in extreme environments, for example is the temperature is significantly cold an anti freeze pipe is required for the installation.
- 2. Certain systems require additionally thinner pipe, the Gridded System requires thinner pipe because the layout positioning gives the water an easier to gain PSI.
- 3. Underground mains must with stand extreme amount of pressure, the pipe material is usually cast iron. Surprisingly there is a special type of PBC made for underground mains.
- Research source: Mentorship, NFPA-13, Journal of Fire Protection Engineering.
- Concluding Sentence: Identifying the best material for the warehouse installation will allow the fire protection system to perform to its full potential.

Blog 10: Senior Project: The Holiday
1. What did you do over break with your senior project?
During the first week of my break I went to my mentors company and was dispatched to do update checks on existing fire sprinkler installations. I visited the Mission Inn Hotel in downtown Riverside. I observed the pumps run for 30 minutes to 1 hour, which I learned is a monthly requirement under contract and warranty. I also helped out the head of sales department, Mr. Holland and learned valuable information about what it takes to sell and be successful as a company, the four broad branches that fire sprinkler system only goes through is design, fabrication, installation, and maintenance.
2. What was the most important thing your learned from what you did and why? what was the source of what you learned?
The most important thing I learned was the four broad branches of the company the design is the job for the engineers, where they construct the blue prints for the building. The fabrication portion falls under the responsibility of the welders, they custom make all the pipes to match the blue prints. the installation takes place on the building site where the "fitters" install the sprinkler system into the building. lastly the fitters also go out to the site from a weekly schedule to a monthly schedule, to see how the system is running.
3. If you are going to do a 10 question interview on questions related to your answers for your EQ, who would you talk to and why?
If was conduct a 10 question interview as a way to uncover more information to potentially answer my EQ, I would choose Chris Holland the head of sales department at Advanco Fire Protection. The reason I would choose him is he has the patience to explain things throughly with me, and has a lot of information from every department to share with me. for example the 4 branches of the company.

Blog Number 9: Essential Question
Content:
1.
"I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ."
2.
A) This working essential question meets the rule of 3 criteria, because it is not a yes or no answer. Also is easy to spread the answer into a large range. And the question is easy to read, and is simply straight to the point.
B) Does not meet the rule of 3 criteria because the word securing can be replaced with a much more understandable word. And the questions does not call for depth in the topic.
C) Yes, this is a good example of a working essential question that reaches the rule of 3 criteria, offers easy proof that to answer this depth is necessary. Also the wording is great, no confusion is made when reading it.
D) The working EQ does meet all requirements of the rule of 3 criteria. The topic is stated clearly within the question, and also the question can only be answered with a lot of work in research and service learning.

-EQ: What is the best versatile Fire Sprinkler system installation for an average building?
- Gridded System, sprinkler system that is arranged in the most efficiently manner possible. Water is used to the best of its ability.
- Back-flow system, prevents water contamination to be feed into public water.
- Quick response sprinklers offer the best response to fire emergencies in average buildings.
3. The most important source I have used to give me a starting point for my EQ is a book called Installation of Fire Sprinklers by NFPA. National Fire Protection Association is the organization who creates the codes for fire sprinkler installers to follow.
4. My Mentor is Rigoberto Vazquez Sr., He is the president of Advanco Fire Protection in Ontario Ca. When I go to Volunteer at Advanco Fire I am able to get visuals and a hands on experience to get a deeper understanding of why a certain procedure, system, or sprinkler is the best in the situation. I get a better understanding during service learning than research check.

Title: Blog 5 Project Essential & Working EQ
Due: 9/8
1) Positive Statement:
With what I have completed so far I have learned quite a bit of my family business. Only the tip of the ice berg, but none the less my interest of the topic has grown very much. During my summer's mentorship hours I have found that with the visual exposure and hands on experience Fire Protection maybe a career path for myself.
2) Essential Question Content:
The best part of the project that has helped my understanding of Fire Protection grow is my time with my mentor during the ten hours I completed at Advanco Fire Protection. During my hours, my mentor gave me a handbook (Installation of Fire Sprinkler Systems) for my topic that has expanded my understanding and terminology of Fire Protection, including some history, names of systems, and brief process of an installation.
3) What has worked so far in your senior project?
The summer mentorship hours have worked best for me so far up to this point, because I learn and work best through visual and hands-on lessons. My mentor took me to his company's factory and showed me all the types of metal pipes for the different environment which I still remember, if I read it in a book I would have some problem recalling the information. I can't wait to return and continue to expand my knowledge in Fire Protection.
4) What hasn't worked for you so far?
What hasn't been working for me very much is research checks. The reason for that is that I have trouble digesting information from my articles and notes with in the limited time I have.
5) Finding Value:
- What is the best versatile fire protection installation for an average building? I am interested in this question is that it requires me to learn about materials, procedures, systems, and requirements to fully answer this question. I intend in learning the entire topic as much as I can, this question connects my intentions for this year and answering the EQ well.
-Mentorship: My mentor is Rigoberto Vazquez, and I plan on going to his company Advanco Fire Protection to learn all about the felid. To get a well rounded knowledge of the topic I intend to learn from each departments such as the architect, material, and installer sections of the factory.
